Wednesday News

Hi, to all!

Our morning began with a jolt when we learned that Sue tested positive for Covid. She is asking for your prayers. The team all masked for the day as Sue quarantined herself at the hotel. She plans to stay in for five days- so disappointing for her especially since she worked very hard on a strategic planning session for today.

Dick stepped up and ran the strategic planning session which included the entire Muko HS Staff and members of the Board of Governors (Board of Governors is like a School Board). Diana assisted Dick as he presented. The HS staff and Board were extremely engaged and came up with a great list of priorities detailing the needs of the school. These needs are ranked by level of difficulty and importance. The group also worked on a Mission and Vision statement- the Mission statement was revised but the Vision statement remained the same.

Karen began work with MUSIC by 9 am along with Teacher Keneth. Keneth is a vibrant and engaging teacher. He is obviously well liked by his students and has a great way of working with them. In the mornings, the students are in four groups based on their placement and experience. Keneth and Karen circulate among those groups  from 9 am until about 1 pm. At 2 pm larger group rehearsals begin combining the four groups into two. The students concentrated on preparing for the concert at 4 pm.

Diana and Barbara spent a couple of hours in the afternoon at the Centre packing suitcases for their return home. She encouraged the team members to check the unpacked crafts to be sure nothing additional was needed. Dick accompanied Diana and Barbara to the Centre where he wrote up notes from the morning meeting.

Dave spent the early afternoon meeting with the members of the Board of Governors and HS administration. He reported a fabulous meeting. The discussion was how to proceed with Term Three in order to insure full collection of school fees. A plan is in place and Dave, Karen and Sue will help Rev. Philip, Eric, and Prudance enforce it on Monday. All are excited about the future for the school.

At 4 pm the team joined HS staff, Board of Governors members and MUSIC students for a concert to demonstrate what was learned at MUSIC Camp during the week. Keneth and his students deserve a resounding congratulations for a beautiful presentation. The younger students who came to camp as brand new beginners were able to play two short tunes. Both tunes showed an ability to hold their instrument and bow and read music. The middle level students played a tune in the middle of their Book One method. The advanced students accompanied some choir students who had prepared a piece of music to thank ACT sponsors for HONOR Scholarships. This piece was composed by a very talented S6 student. The orchestra also played "African Blessing" and another lively tune by rote. They were charming. We were able to capture a video which may be available soon.

Generous and Rev Philip returned in the van with the team to Kabale and we all had dinner together. Generous is returning to Kampala to see her children off to school and Rev. Philip will make a trip to the Diocese in the morning, returning to Muko HS shortly after that. The team will arise early in order to see Diana, Barbara and Dick off with breakfast at 6:30 am followed by departure at 7 am. We will miss our friends who have been so valuable to the work of ACT. Each in their own way were huge contributors. Let's all pray for their safe return to the USA.

We hope this finds everyone well- take care until we return!
