Promoting Public Health in MUKO

 The ACT HEAL Program (Health is Elemental to All Life) works in 74 villages from 7 different parishes of Muko Sub-County - Butare, Karengyere, Kaara, Nyarurambi, Kyenyi, Kabere, and Ikamiro Parishes. HEAL has a team of 15 members; 13 volunteer Health Promotion Workers (HPWs), an Assistant HEAL Manager and a HEAL Manger. The HPWs mobilize community members to come for the dialogue. A Village Dialogue with Tom Akwankasa leading The HEAL team members work together with Ugandan governmental Village Health Teams, local leaders and church leaders. They sensitize the different community members in topics such as sanitation and hygiene, gender domestic violence, accidents in young children, alcoholism, poverty, nutrition and malnutrition among others.  The various community members greatly appreciate the services rendered by HEAL which benefits everyone in Muko Sub-County. The Journey of ACT Uganda with Muko High School

In August of 2017, a US travel team spent about two weeks in Muko, Uganda working with our Ugandan partners on the various programs underway there including our HONOR scholarship Program. The day before the team was scheduled to return to the US, we received an inquiry from Bishop George Bagamuhunda of the Church of Uganda's Kigezi Diocese regarding our interest in exploring ACT to assume the operation of the church's Muko High School (MHS). As he put it humorously, "we know how to save souls; you know how to run schools!" The next day the Bishop was returning from a meeting in Kampala while the travel team was en-route to the airport in Entebbe for their return flight to the US (an 8-hour journey). Face-to-Face for the First Time

Generous: A special year! It was September 2006 when we received Sue and John in our country. It was their first time to visit Uganda. They had mobilised funds to purchase an ambulance (Toyota Hiace Van) for the Ikamiro Bataka Lifeline Society, an association in one of the villages of Muko Sub County (Ikamiro Village) They had sent the money ahead of their trip to Chipper Adams (Chipper is an ex-pat American who grew up in Sub Saharan Africa with missionary parents). A day after their arrival, we headed to Chipper's home in Kampala to collect the ambulance and were excited to drive it to Muko and deliver it to the Ikamiro Bataka Lifeline! The Ambulance Chipper Adams suggested we take Christopher Nsereko, one of his most trusted drivers, who drove us well but on reaching Masaka (about 2 hours from Kampala), the vehicle broke down.
