New Leadership of ACT Uganda

  ACT Uganda has a new Board of Directors to lead the organization. They are pictured her outside the entrance gate to the ACT Resource Center in Muko Marketplace. The ACT Uganda is Generous Turinawe, third from the left. The Board members serving are: Mr. Moses Bahatiyamungu, Mayor Norman Tushabe, Mr. Victor Kyatuka, Mr. Patrick Abeneimwe, Ms. Charity Mahoro, Ms. Charity Allen. These great, community leaders will take ACT forward in 2022 and beyond.  The new ACT Uganda Board  During their first meeting, they evaluated the meeting and here are some of their comments.  The level of technology is good and should be embraced. Good to know each other and what our roles will be. We were given guiding tools to be Board Members. We had good discussions regarding serving the community. Promoting Public Health in MUKO

 The ACT HEAL Program (Health is Elemental to All Life) works in 74 villages from 7 different parishes of Muko Sub-County - Butare, Karengyere, Kaara, Nyarurambi, Kyenyi, Kabere, and Ikamiro Parishes. HEAL has a team of 15 members; 13 volunteer Health Promotion Workers (HPWs), an Assistant HEAL Manager and a HEAL Manger. The HPWs mobilize community members to come for the dialogue. A Village Dialogue with Tom Akwankasa leading The HEAL team members work together with Ugandan governmental Village Health Teams, local leaders and church leaders. They sensitize the different community members in topics such as sanitation and hygiene, gender domestic violence, accidents in young children, alcoholism, poverty, nutrition and malnutrition among others.  The various community members greatly appreciate the services rendered by HEAL which benefits everyone in Muko Sub-County. Swedish Sax Quartet (bet you were surprised to see that title!)

Happy Friday all! Our ACT MUSIC students enjoyed a special visit on April 8th, 2023 from a saxophone quartet coming all the way from Sweden. More cultural sharing which is part of ACT's vision. Job Ivan Tezigatwa, who brought the quartet to Muko, is a composer, arranger and conductor from Uganda. He had heard the ACT MUSIC students in 2022 and helped facilitate this workshop. The students learned about the saxophone and heard it played by professionals. All musicians played together, each teaching the others how to join together with their prepared music. Job Ivan arranged two pieces, "Bagatelle Variations by Anton Diabelli and "Beethoven is a Mukiga" from Beethoven's "Fur Elise" for saxophone quartet and string orchestra. (Mukiga is the reference to a single member of the Bakiga Tribe which are the people of Muko).  The string students were taught by their two student leaders, Brave Ainmaani and Norbert Ahariza, and the students were easily able to fit...
