HONORing the Kids
H.O.N.O.R.S. - Hope, Opportunity, Need, Ownership, Respect Scholarship
The HONOR Scholarship is a fund of ACT that engages dedicated, recurring donors to assist the students within the Rubanda District with their primary and secondary education with the outcome of providing greater life opportunities for each student.
As most of you know, this program sprung out of the original orphan sponsorship program - a program that we realized was encouraging some students to feel entitled and not be serious about their education.
As evidence that this new scholarship fund is more successful than the sponsorship program, we need not look any further than the number of kids that quit school or were suspended under the original program and under the new program only 1 young scholar has left the program. In addition, the academic performance of the students has never been higher.
Currently, we have 192 students under the HONOR Scholarship. These kids are enthusiastic about their education and their dreams. We have about 40 students who are continuing in their education but for whom we have no donors. ACT has a bit of a reserve to cover these students to help them complete their schooling. We have limited funds but feel obligated to see them through.
If you can, would you help by supporting these kids? We would prefer a recurring donation so that we can count on the support ongoing but any amount will help. It costs $300 per year ($100 per term, 3 terms in a year). We hope to continue to grow the numbers of scholarships over the years.
For the first time in the history of Muko High School, two kids earned Ugandan -government sponsored scholarships to University. These were HONOR scholars supported by ACT and you!
To sign up for support:
We are in deep gratitude to Karen Viele who has been the Team Leader of this program for 11 years. She evaluated and immensely improved the program and recruited record numbers of donors. Over 450 kids have benefitted from this scholarship and education due mostly to Karen's Leadership. She will be stepping down from this program and we all wish her peace and the realization of a life dedicated to helping kids reach their potential not only academically but also musically.
We thank you.
Long live ACT
