African Women Leaders

An opportunity presented itself to our women leaders in Muko to attend a conference about leadership - African Women's Leadership Conference. It was an affordable conference for our women leaders to learn about their role as leaders in Muko Sub County. Those who attended the 6 week online conference were: Generous Turinawe, ACT Uganda Director, Judith Tukahirwe, former HONOR Scholarship Manager, Prudance Kengyeyo, Bursar at Muko High School, Pamella Musiimenta, HANDS Assistant Manager.

Generous wrote about the opportunity below:

"What a God-given gift course!! The four pillars of leadership, all the six sessions were outstanding. I discovered and grasped a rich learning opportunity when other women shared their experiences and challenges with a multi-talented, multi-national and multi-industry group of senior women leaders.

I also discovered the value of my own experiences and success over the 20 years I have spent in a leadership position for community holistic transformation. It was a really powerful way to gain confidence in myself and my own journey of leadership BUT the AWLC increased a big portion of understanding of the best way to lead others at ease and peace without hurting one another. I now have more and stronger drive effort of empowering other women, even men and younger people to unlock and achieve their potential.

After the course, my colleagues, Judith, Pamella, Prudance and I had an evaluation of all we learned from the AWLC leaders and all the participants, our findings were that we were impacted beyond expectations!

Going forward, we plan to turn this into a project adding it to the program we have for community transformation under our NGO umbrella (ACT). We will draw a work plan targeting churches, schools and community resource centres for dialogues. I have already started the talk with 2 church organizations in Kampala bringing all together under the theme: "A woman of noble character: from the Bible scripture in Proverbs 31:10-31. While putting women at the center, men and children also through this concept."
