Something for you to think about...

This coming week, we will be launching a very important fund-raising campaign:

Completion of the new Science Lab at Muko High School

Allow me to share with you the before and now photos! The old "lab" was a single, small, very dark classroom. In the words of Mathias Atuheire (Science Teacher): [In the old room] "students would not be able to see, touch and handle what little science equipment available or not enjoy the science teaching and learning process because of the small room. Learners had a negative attitude towards sciences with the ideology that they cannot pass sciences from here because there is no well-equipped and improved science laboratory."

In addition to the science-related materials, the violins and violas were also stored there.

Not only was the room decrepit, the supplies were very old and limited. The students literally did not have the supplies to be able to take and pass practical exams to move ahead.

Tr. Wenzi Twebaze (Physics/Mathematics) says, "It has always been a challenge to effectively accommodate learners in the room during physics practical lessons and this has forced us to divide learners into smaller groups to easily accommodate them to at least have each learner interact with the apparatus. This makes an 80-minute lesson into a full day as each group needs attention and guidance. By the end of the day a teacher feels exhausted.

And then...
ACT joined in the administration of Muko High School. And because there are  teachers and staff at MHS who are so dedicated to their profession and the students, and we have so many partners in the U.S. who know the importance of science education and are incredibly generous, we now have a nearly complete, brand new Science Lab! Not only the students and teachers excited but the whole Muko community is abuzz about it.

It is amazing to me that the teachers and staff of Muko High School and ACT donated bricks to this project. These folks who have an average monthly salary of 300,000 UGX (about $85 USD) and still find it in their hearts to contribute! Along with some US donors who have so generously made this happen so far. All-in-all, this Science Lab, completed, will cost $43,200 USD (155,520,042 UGX). We are $17,250 away from the goal posts!

When you receive the link to the campaign this week in your email, you will learn more specifically what it is we need to complete this project. We hope you will prayerfully consider whatever you might be able to contribute so that the dream will be fully realized.

Another chapter of ACT's impact in the transformation of Muko SubCounty.

Happy 20th Anniversary, ACT!
