What Does The Future Hold?

All of us in the Uganda and the US realize that "nothing lasts forever!" We, in the US, are getting older and won't always be able to sustain the involvement we have for 2 decades now. Here is a short video of Generous and I talking about the need to help our partners in Uganda become sustainable financially.

Throughout our Strategic Plan, it is evident we are focused on ways to make ACT Uganda sustainable - ultimately without much or any fund-raising or grants from ACT US. One way we are moving forward toward that vision is to start a new social business in Muko. A social business is one that makes a profit after expenses and salaries and that profit goes back into a social enterprise - in this case ACT and its programs. We have conducted three comprehensive feasibility studies on three different businesses and the one we believe will succeed is a local hardware store in Muko Sub-County. It will conveniently provide a service and products to the people of Muko so that they don't have to travel 45km to get supplies. We are in the process of determining the location in the Muko Marketplace, and raising the $20,000 investment required to buy the initial inventory and hire a store clerk. We plan to complete a 6-month pilot project and then assess the business before we move on to other businesses.

If this is intriguing to you and you would like to partner in this project, please send a donation to P.O. Box 2565, Midland, MI 48641

(We are not accepting online donations yet for this project.)

Thanks! And, here's to the future!
